According to Android Central, users of the international variant of the Samsung Galaxy SIII should be expecting an upgrade to Jelly Bean within the next few weeks. The update is expected to come soon after the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event where the Galaxy Note II is expected to be revealed. If true, this means that users of the international Galaxy SIII (GT-i9300) will be the first users to get an official build of Jelly Bean outside of Google’s Nexus line of devices. There is no word on when the US variants with the Snapdragon S4 processor will get the update, but it would be in Samsung’s best interest to release the update quickly.
If this report does end up being true, it would be quite the feat for Samsung and also a positive step forward for Android enthusiasts. Jelly Bean launched on Nexus devices a little over a month ago, and previously software updates for non-nexus devices usually required at least 4-6 months of waiting. Hopefully this will put pressure on HTC, Motorola and other Android manufacturers to start pumping out OS releases quicker and also set a new standard for timely Android updates going forward.
