IFA 2012 was the launching point for Samsung’s new ATIV line of Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT devices today.
The first handset from this new line is the ATIV S. Clad in aluminum, the ATIV S has a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED plus display, shielded by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2. It takes advantage of Windows Phone’s newly expanded specs requirements by packing a 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. If Windows Phone 7’s performance on only 512 MB of RAM and a single core Snapdragon was any indication…this phone should scream on Windows Phone 8. Like most other Samsung smartphones, the ATIV S has a 8 MP camera on the back. For video conferencing lovers, it also rocks a 1.9 MP front-facing camera as well.
The ATIV S will be available in both 16 GB or 32 GB flavors and you can expand that storage safely now since Windows Phone 8 officially supports the use of MicroSD expandable storage.
Joining the ATIV S is the ATIV Tab. It’s a 10 inch tablet powered by Windows RT and features a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor along with 2 GB of RAM, a Micro HDMI out and a USB port. Available in 32 and 64 GB flavors, the ATIV Tab will have availability and pricing announced at a later date.
